All contestants must complete a speakers_certification_eligibility_and_originality_form to enter any speech contest
Table Topics Key Contest Rules
All contestants will receive the same topic, which will be of a general nature.
The topic will not require a detailed knowledge and will enable you to give an an opinion or conclusion.
When the contest begins, all contestants except the first will leave the room and remain under the supervision of the contest Sergeant at Arms.
Each contestant will be introduced by announcing the contestant’s name, the topic, the topic, the contestant’s name.
At the conclusion of each speech, there is a minute’s silence for the judges, and the next speaker is invited into the room.
Table Topics Time
A contestant will be disqualified if the speech is less than one minute (1min) or more than two minutes thirty seconds (2min30sec).
The green light will be displayed at one minute and remain displayed for 30 seconds.
The yellow light will be displayed at one minute thirty seconds and remain displayed for 30 seconds.
The red light will be displayed at two minutes and remain displayed until the speech is concluded.
In all speech contests, no signal can be given for the overtime period.
The timing begins with your first definite verbal or nonverbal communication with the audience. This usually will be the first word uttered by the contestant, but would include any other communication such as sound effects, a staged act
Humorous Contest Speech Rules
Speeches must be substantially original.
Contestants must not reference another contestant, or a speech presented by another contestant, from the platform at the same contest in which they are competing.
Contestants can use props (including any sort of electronic devices), you must be able to set up in 60secs, may enlist someone to help them with prop, and notify the contest chair prior to the contest.
Speech can not a monologue (series of one-liners).
The first 3 places will be announced in reverse order at the end of the event (if there are only 4 contestants , only 2 places will be announced).
Humorous Speech Time
A contestant will be disqualified if the speech is less than four minutes thirty seconds (4min30sec) or more than seven minutes thirty seconds (7min30sec).
The green light will be displayed at five minutes and remain displayed for one minute.
The yellow signal will be displayed at six minutes and remain displayed for one minute.
The red signal will be displayed at seven minutes and will remain on until the conclusion of the speech.
